Have you ever wondered why supermarkets sell groceries, dog food, toys, and hardware supplies?
It’s about convenience. (If you answered corporate greed, I will give you partial credit.)
Imagine how much your day would suck if it started with creating a long errand list, “I have to buy food for the week. Then, head out to the pet store to buy Rover canned food. My nephew’s birthday party is tomorrow, so I need to buy a present at the toy store. I can’t forget to go to the hardware store for some duct tape. Oh, and I need to buy flowers for my wife because I know I will probably forget something on my list.”
Instead of driving to five different places and wasting your time, the supermarket has done most of the work for you by creating a one-stop shop.
Player Support Services (PSS) replicated this concept for athlete’s needs and well-being. Our services fulfill an athlete’s needs within and outside of sport.
Let’s use an example to illustrate.
You have played for the same team for ten years and were just informed you were traded to a team on the other side of the country. Your family is left to pack up all their belongings and move to a location closer to where you are playing. In the previous season, you battled injuries that you need to continue to rehab to improve your production and help your new team pursue a first-ever championship. In addition, you know you are nearing retirement, even though you are only 33 years old, and need to budget finances to ensure long-term financial security for your family.
Within that example, there is much to unpack, and many needs to be met. Being traded means you will need to find realtors to sell your old house and purchase a new one in a different state. To deal with your nagging injuries, you may want to hire a private physio and a sports injury psychologist to reduce your stress and speed up recovery. You may decide to seek out a sports psychologist to improve your performance and extend your career. A new state means new challenges for your kids whose lives are upended. Perhaps they could benefit from a child therapist to help them process their experience and deal with separation from their friends. With retirement around the corner, you might benefit from a financial planner to budget your money, a business developer to brainstorm effective strategies for a new venture, or a career transition coach to assist with the challenges of an identity outside of sport.
Imagine the overwhelming challenge of locating a sports psychologist, injury psychologist, realtor, physical therapist, child therapist, career transition coach, business advisor, financial planner, wealth management expert, and more. Not to mention the crucial need to find reputable resources interested in helping you and not padding their wallets.
Many athletes have voiced their frustration of not knowing where to turn to deal with their situation or finding trusted resources to meet their needs.
Well, Player Support Services has done the work for you by creating a network of vetted resources and partners to meet your needs as an athlete, parent, potential business owner, and person outside of sports. We are your one-stop shop for well-being.
